Rev. Tom Eggold and Pastor Albers will again be leading the Leadership Team in Retreat on Saturday, August 29.  The goals of this session will be to prepare statements of congregational "values" and then "strategies" and "measures" as the team completes work on the four parts of the Vision Frame (See article on the Vision page of this website).

Leadership Team Retreat, Saturday, June 20 (8:30am)

A dozen congregational leaders gathered on Saturday, June 20, and put in about 4 1/2 hours of work analyzing information gathered from community leader interviews, offering their input concerning the needs for ministry which surround our community, and developing the :"Kingdom Concept" which will guide our additional conversations.

The group observed most dramatically a sense of lostness that many in our community experience, lostness that often exists just under a surface of stability in our community and families.  It is often observed that Faith Memorial is "in the middle of nowhere."  The group thought instead that it would be helpful to consider Faith Memorial as being in the "middle of everywhere", expanding our ideas of what ministry might look like in this place.  Although work on a Mission Statement draft was not complete, the group seemed to agree that we made great progress and are "very close" to preparing a Mission Statement that will, most certainly, include some sense of "connecting" people to God and to others.

Vision Steering Committee, Thursday, June 11 (6:30pm)

The Revitalization Steering Committee met as scheduled and worked through a very basic, but important agenda.  Pastor Albers asked for input concerning the various communication pieces being used to connect with congregation members (e.g. website, narthex, printed announcements, etc.).  Additionally, a schedule was finalized for the 2nd Revitalization Retreats (August 29).  Finally, the group worked through and prepared a more detailed agenda for the retreat on Saturday, June 20, including a few "homework assignments" that several in the group were undertaking.

Vision Steering Committee, Wednesday, May 13 (6:30pm)

Rev. Tom Eggold visited with the newly formed Revitalization Steering Committee.  The group spent most of its time and effort working on the first practical steps in the new visioning process, the community interviews, including by church members of their neighbors, co-workers, family, and friends.  Additionally, plans were made for interviews of Community leaders, interviews to be completed by teams of people including Pastor Albers, Leadership Team members, and congregation members.

The group also took a close look at the organizational structure for the Revitalization effort, a structure designed to both "share the load" (or work and effort) and "spread the wealth" (of information).  Initial plans were made for a Revitalization Leadership Team Retreat on Saturday, June 20, and even initial plans for events going forward later this summer and early this fall.

The team plans to meet again on Thursday evening, June 11, beginning at 6:30pm.

Board of Elders, Tuesday, May 5 (7:00pm)

At its meeting on Tuesday, May 5, the Board of Elders discussed ways that the congregation might begin to answer the question, "What does our community need?"  According to the visioning process it is critical that we begin to define a bit better "local predicament."  (See the article from the May edition of The Faithful Reporter, "Are You Ready?"  Click on the "Vision" tab and, in particular, "The Kingdom Concept" link to learn more.

After the Steering Committee puts together a few more details with the guidance of Rev. Eggold, the congregation will be asked to help reach out to the community, including their neighbors, friends and co-workers.  Additionally, it is hoped that we can reach out to dozens of community leaders, including elected officials and other leaders.  Who do you think we should talk to?

Leadership Team Meeting, Wednesday, April 22 (7:00pm)

The congregational Leadership Team met with Rev. Tom Eggold for the first time on Wednesday evening, April 22. This Leadership Team includes:

  • The six members of the Board of Elders

  • The current congregational president, the past-president, and the vice-president

  • The four ministry board chairpersons

  • The pastor and deaconess

Rev. Eggold reviewed the modified set of prescriptions, including his plans for helping Faith Memorial through a comprehensive Visioning Process.  Prior to the meeting the Leadership Team was asked to read "The Church Unique" (see the Book Reviews), which will provide an outline for the visioning process, beginning with the development of our congregation's Kingdom Concept.

Following Rev. Eggold's presentation it was agreed by all that the plan is aggressive with a timeline to match.  At this point the plan includes a series of meetings and other events that will begin putting the pieces together as the congregation develops a new vision for ministry.  This vision will include consideration of the congregational mission and values, strategies for ministry and measures for success.
